Service Project -
The 4th Saturday in May instead of our regular
monthly meeting we will do Clean up & Restoration at Morton Hill
Cemetery. Join us with your friends and family at the cemetery at
9:00 a.m. There will be story telling of prominent people buried
in the cemetery, a few hours for clean up, just in time for Memorial
day visitors and we will be placing flags on the graves of our
veterans. Join us for this great Memorial Day weekend event.
The more hands, the lighter the work. Don't forget to bring your
gloves, rakes, gardening equipment and yard garbage bags. |

Pioneer Certificate potluck
- Time
and place to be determined. Those who have researched their
Berrien County family and documented it according to the Pioneer
Certificate guidelines will be presented with their certificates.
If your family are long time residents of Berrien County, check out
the Pioneer Certificate page to see how you can qualify for a
certificate. If you would like to serve on the Pioneer

Deeds & Land Records available in Berrien County.
Lori Jarvis, Register of Deeds, will be the featured
speaker. By then records should all be computerized so she will bring
a laptop and demonstrate the digitized records. Join us on a
virtual tour of the Deeds and Land Records of Berrien county.
Lori will be available for a Q&A session after her presentation.

County Historical Association booth. Our Cemetery books will be
available to purchase during the fair. |

Show and Tell This year, along with your show and tell,
the Berrien County Genealogical Society will be displaying our "Show
and Tell" items from our holdings. Browse through our room at
the Berrien Springs library, look at the displays in the meeting room
and enjoy the items on display. Be sure to bring one of your favorite
heirloom to show and discuss at this meeting. Some items that have
been displayed in the past are: Genealogical books, Photo
Albums, Christmas Cookie Cutters, an Oxen Harness, CD made up of
stories and photos of family, Certificates, etc. Join us for a
night of fun. |

12, 2008:
Annual Christmas Pot Luck & Toys for Tots will be
held at Bob and Nancy Cooley's home. Bring an unwrapped toy to
donate to Toys for Tots and enjoy a pot luck dinner provided by all
who attend. This evening will certainly put you in the Christmas
Spirit.

MEETING LOCATION UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED:
Our monthly meetings are held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) Church, in Benton Harbor
at 7 pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, unless
otherwise designated. There will be a couple of meetings, (i.e. our annual seminar, etc.) that
will be held elsewhere, you will be notified in advance of these meetings. Our board meetings
(which are open to all BCGS members) are located at the LDS Church as well, and are held at 7 PM on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

Our first 2008 Meeting
will be held at Berrien Springs Library at 7:00 p.m.
Come and listen to Bob Myers discuss "Researching Mariner
Ancestors". Bob will also discuss the Genealogy Room at the
Historical Building that is across the street from the library.

February 20,
2008:
Family Reunions – Organizing a reunion, games to get
acquainted with those ancestors and telling your family stories. If you have a favorite Family Reunion idea, please
bring it to share that evening.

2008: Workshop
at LDS Family History Center
– Programs for research includes Ancestory.com, Heritage Quest,
Family Search and others. There will be help on “Where do I
Begin” for beginners and those who have not
picked up their genealogy in awhile. How to determine where to
start or start again. Bring a friend and work on buddy
system with them. There will be genealogists there to help you. |

Chat Rooms, etc. Guest speakers will be Cheryl

and Jake Toering, teacher of
family research for the Senior Center. Come and listen to their
experiences with searching ancestors and the use of the internet in
their lives. |
